About arc Thrift Stores
About The Company
arc Thrift Stores are a Colorado non profit organization operating in Metro Denver, Fort Collins, Greeley, Colorado Springs and Pueblo. The proceeds generated through arc Thrift Stores are distributed to The Arc and the Association for Community Living (ACL). We are owned, operated and governed by a board of directors comprised of Arc members, and business members from the community.
Founded in 1963, under the name of "Value Village Thrift Store", our first store opened on South Broadway in Denver Colorado. The original store was established as a cooperative fund-raising project to benefit local Arc units by providing high quality, pre-owned apparel and home furnishings at a price that is 30% to 90% less than original retail. Over the past two decades, the demand for high quality, low cost merchandise has increased significantly.
To acquire inventory, arc Thrift Stores created a unique telemarketing team to solicit donations in which everyone is called "Jane" or "James". This program has become a distinguishing characteristic for which we are well recognized. Through the donor's loyal and generous giving over the years, significant proceeds were returned to the Arc units, enabling that organization to expand the services. During the last five years, distribution to the Arc / ACL units have totaled more than $11,000,000 from proceeds generated thru arc Thrift Stores.
Committed to maintaining a strong market position in Colorado, we are dedicated to expansion and growth. The combined arc Thrift Store markets serve a total population of three million and we employ approximately 500 people throughout Colorado.
While expansion is an important element in our strategy, superior management of stores is also a top priority. We have built a strong infrastructure capable of managing a significantly larger organization with a veteran management team, well versed in retail strategies.
It has been said that the retail industry is one that is defined by constant change. We have proven to be progressive and adaptable to such change.
